We really like zuks but most of the local stores never have any
good ones (small and beat up) if they have them so we decided to
try to grow our own.
All of the pictures were taken at 1600x1200 and 16bit color. The
pictures on the page have been reduced by 1/3 and linked to the
full sized picture which is a much bigger download (~400KB). I've
provided them for people with faster connections or those that are
trying to help me identify things of note.

Here's my zuchinni plant (one of three) that fruited first. The
first fruit that was produced is the one in the lower right and the end
with the wilted blossum used to be fat and smooth but then started to
shrivel. Any ideas what happened to it? There's a second fruit in the
back/middle that you can see through the stems. This one is plump and
smooth.

I closer pic of the shriveled zuk.

I decided to cut the zuk off today because the end of it was
starting to rot. I decided to slice it in half to see if it was
infested with someting. Here is a closeup of the outside. No the
penny didn't fall out of it.

Here's a closeup of the inside. You can see that about 3/4" from
the blossum end the zuk has rotted inside. Seeds were forming so
I'm pretty sure that it was pollenated. After reading a tomato
forum I'm wondering if zuks can get BER (Blossum End Rot or Bottom End
Rot). I have other zuks growing on the same plant and my other
two plants and the ones that are really coming along have dropped
their blossums. This rotten one was the first zuk out of all of
them. We did have some funky weather going on so perhaps it was
damaged from too much water or too much sun. Any ideas?

Well the plant that produced the first zuk and then had it lost to
BER seems to have recovered. This big mamma is on the very same
plant. I've cut off other zuks that look sick so this one might
make it.

My second most mature zuk plant had a pretty big zuk on it which
was over the 6" mark but I lost it to BER. Well now it has two
more growing on it and they seem to be doing fine so far.

After a long wait I finally harvested two zuks on 6/30/2003 and
put them in the fridge. After a third one matured we cut it off
and ate all three on 7/12/2003. The really big one was a bit over
ripe so I scraped the seeds off. In the end they were very good.
:) My first meal from my first garden.

Another angle of the above. BTW that's a 6 inch ruler.
