About

This page is the home of my 2003 Tomato plants.

I don't really like raw tomatos (but I make an awesome sauce) so I wasn't going to grow any but my girlfriend wanted some so here they are.

All of the pictures were taken at 1600x1200 and 16bit color. The pictures on the page have been reduced by 1/3 and linked to the full sized picture which is a much bigger download (~400KB). I've provided them for people with faster connections or those that are trying to help me identify things of note.

This is pic of my smallest tomato plant that I'm growing for Jenn. Overall it looks healthy. No spots on the leaves, no holes, and if it hadn't been raining and breezy the leaves would have been flatter.
This is a closeup of the stem of the above plant. Notice the light colored streak going up the stem. Its really a light brown/tan color like a dried out scar. The rest of the stem in that area is dark like a purple color. In this discolored region the stem is much softer than the green part and as a result the plants won't stand on their own so I have them tethered to a chopstick (its not tight).
This is another shot of the same stem taken with the flash. Also notice the "blistering" in the green part of the stem just above the "bad" part. Any idea of what's causing this?
Here's on of the other two tomato plants and the blistering is more pronounced but these stems lack the "scar" that the other one has. None of the three tomato plants can stand on their own.
Of the three mater plants that I have the biggest one (currently tied to a bike handle for support) finally has a mater growing on it! June 25th, 2003.
Well the sickly plant pictured above in the first 3 pix, has grown up healthy and has its first fruit on it. Not the same plant as the picture immediately above.
Well the second plant to fruit started showing damage on its biggest fruit which looked like either an infection or bug damage.
One day later the damage was getting worse so after taking this picture I cut the fruit off and tossed it.
Here is the first fruit (4 pix up with the penny) taken on July 9th, 2003. I was kind of squating and leaning over so the pic got a litle blury.
This is one of my 3 tomato plants at its new home on my deck taken July 29th, 2003.
This is the tomato plant that I planted into the ground taken Oct. 12th, 2003.
